Susan Bachner, MA, OT, FAOTA (retired) worked for more than 50 years as an occupational therapist to provide clinical and consultation services for people facing physical, mental and cognitive challenges. Susan’s home adaptations consulting business (2000- 2017) was dedicated to creating environments to promote safety, accessibility, comfort, and social participation. In 2014, Susan won the National Association of Home Builders’ “Home for Life Award” that utilized Universal Design for a couple choosing to age-in -place. Over the years, she published extensively for professional audiences. Additionally, in 2003-2004, Susan wrote a monthly column in the Chevy Chaser Magazine covering a variety of aspects of Universal Design.
In 2024, due to the term limitations on the Board of the Ashland Terrace Independent Living Retirement Community, Susan left that Board. Currently she continues as a member of the Lexington Senior Citizens Commission (since 2016) as well as a member of the Reimagining Home Group (housing options) since its inception in 2017.
