Margaret McCoskey, MSSW has served the field of aging for the majority of her career. She has focused her professional career in Gerontology and related fields which she has served since 2000. She participates in many community organizations, including being a member of the Reimagining Home group, and is an active AARP Volunteer. She currently serves on the Board of the Lexington Senior Center. She served as Sales Coordinator for the annual I Know Expo and has been a member of the planning committee since the origination of the Expo. She is a strong advocate for elders and has spoken before the city council and the planning commission on specific issues that were important for our elder community. In recent years her passion has focused on Caregiving as a result of her caregiver role for her late husband and has shared her “story” with a variety of groups. Additionally, through her AARP advocacy efforts on caregiving she has taken part in approaching our Representative in Washington D.C. on expanding aid for caregivers in Kentucky and nationally. Over the years Margaret has mentored social work students from several schools during their practicum process in hopes of encouraging them to enter the field of aging upon graduation.
Margaret lists her most rewarding academic accomplishment as being a co-author for an article published in Families in Society: “Caring for our Elders: A Contemporary Condundrum for Working People,” The Journal of Contemporary Social Services. Volume 87 No. 3/July-September 2006, 417-426. And most recently chaired a Reimaging Home study group that produced a White Paper on Cohousing.
